General Description: On April 1, 1987, The American Heartland Theatre opened, the fulfillment of founder Jim Assad's vision of a very special theatre for Kansas City. He believed that theatre should be entertaining, that there should be an "exciting ambiance" in the surroundings, where people would "enjoy the atmosphere, enjoy what's on stage, and enjoy each other." The American Heartland Theatre provides an intimate space where the audience can forget reality and take back their imaginations.

The theatre provides a luxurious 420 seat theatre, spacious reception lobby, full-service beverage bar, a private suite for 36 guests and 15% dinner discounts at Crown Center restaurants. The facilities are also available for special events such as wedding receptions and seminars. There are no fees for access services.

Public Transportation/Directions: The American Heartland Theatre is located on Level 4 of the Crown Center Shops. All-day covered parking is available free of charge on Level 3A and other levels. Handicap parking is available on levels 2A and 3A to the right of the mall entrance door from the Crown Center Shops parking garage. Vans with lift equipment may use reimbursable valet parking at the Westin Hotel. From the front door, cross lobby to elevators; Go to the Ballroom level and exit. Go down the hallway that enters level 2 of Crown Center Shops. Go down the hall to South elevator and take it to the 4th floor. Courtesy wheelchairs are available at Customer Service on level two of the Crown Center Shops.

B/VI: People who are blind or visually impaired: Movable front row seats allow for adjacent companion seating and may be reserved in advance.

D/HH People who are deaf or hard of hearing: The 2002-03 season will provide sign language interpreters for one performance of each production. Fixed seats with an infrared listening system are located within a 50 foot viewing distance, and may be requested in advance. For presentations and programs, accessible microphones are available.

WC/MI People using wheelchairs or people with mobility impairments: Movable seats are easily accessed, allow for adjacent companion seating and may be reserved in advance. Levels 2 and 3 of Crown Center Mall have fully accessible restrooms meeting ADAAG alternative requirements.

Driving Directions:
From the North on I-29, I-35 and Broadway Bridge: Follow I-35 South and exit at 20th Street (exit 1D). Turn east on 20th Street. Follow the directional signs to Crown Center. (Go Back)

From the East on I-70: Take I-70 West to I-35 South to McGee/Truman Road (exit 2Q). Follow Truman Road one block to Grand. Turn south on Grand and continue to Crown Center at Pershing Road. (Go Back)
